Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball television series, and Tatsuya Nagamine collaborated on the 2018 Japanese animation martial arts fantasy/adventure film titled Dragon Ball Super: Broly (Japanese:, Hepburn: Doragon Bru Sp: Buror). It is the first Dragon Ball Super-branded movie, the third with direct involvement from Toriyama, and the twentieth overall Dragon Ball feature film.

Galactic warlord King Cold transfers the acquisition of Planet Vegeta to his son, Lord Frieza. The Saiyan king, King Vegeta, is convinced that his son Prince Vegeta is destined to free his people from Frieza and establish himself as the supreme ruler of the universe. When he finds out that Broly, a Saiyan child, was born with a power level higher than his own, he banishes him to the far-off planet Vampa, where he and his father Paragus are stuck after their spacecraft are wrecked.

In order to get revenge on King Vegeta, Paragus swears to raise Broly. Five years later, Bardock, a low-class Saiyan warrior, sends his young son, Kakarot, to Earth out of fear for Frieza's depravity. When Frieza destroys Planet Vegeta after learning of the Super Saiyan legend that he thinks would one day confront him, his fears become reality. Only Broly and Paragus, Kakarot and his brother Raditz, Vegeta and his friend Nappa, and Vegeta's sibling Tarble survive the Saiyan race's genocidal slaughter.
